The Best Side Dishes with Lobster

Steamed clams: one of the best lobster side dishes.

What are the best side dishes to serve with lobster?  Lobster has a sweet, succulent flavor and should be paired with side dishes which enhance this flavor.  Traditional side dishes such as potatoes, corn on the cob and steamed clams are delicious accompaniments to a lobster dinner.  I’m also a big fan of serving fresh peas with lobster dishes like lobster newburg.  Here are some suggestions on the best side dishes with lobster.

The Best Side Dishes With Lobster

Classic Side Dishes With Lobster

Serve your steamed, boiled or grilled lobster with classic ‘lobster dinner’ sides, including steamed clams, steamed corn on the cob and steamed potatoes.

Casual Side Dishes With Lobster

Cole Slaw: Served your cooked lobster with a creamy cole slaw. Use a light cream vs a strongly flavored mayonnaise.

Macaroni and cheese: Make the mac and cheese with some nutty cheeses (like gruyere) and/or mix in some nutmeg and it will go really lovely with the lobster.

Corn: Corn compliments lobster nicely. For steamed or boiled lobster or for a lobster stew, a nice white corn salad or corn bread is a nice side. Again, corn on the cob goes nicely with steamed lobster as part of a shore dinner.

Salad: A simple salad with fresh tomatoes (heirloom if you can find them) and some nice soft cheese such as mascarpone or burrata drizzled with olive oil works well. Soft, creamy cheeses compliment lobster really well.

Potatoes: Potato salad is a classic side dish to serve with a lobster dinner. Boiled new potatoes also go nicely with with freshly steamed lobster.

Crusty bread:  A crusty loaf of french bread is another easy side dish for a lobster dinner.

Side Dishes with A Lobster Roll

If you’re having a Maine lobster roll, serve it with a crisp dill pickle and some potato chips (cole slaw is another nice accompaniment).

Side Dishes with A Creamy Lobster Entree

If you’re serving lobster newburg (or another creamy lobster dish), peas are a really nice, simple side dish. I also serve my lobster newburg over toasted saltine crackers and the flavor of that combo is divine.
