The Price Of Lobster In Maine – November 2015

The price of lobster remains high this fall in Maine.  The boat price of lobster is currently over $4.00 per pound in Cutler where my family fish.  The market price of lobster in Hannaford supermarkets in Maine is $6.99 to $8.99, depending on whether you’re buying soft shell (new shell) or hard shell lobster.

Of course the market price of lobster ranges from retailer to retailer and is in constant fluctuation.  For this reason, most Maine restaurant menus do not include a specific price for lobster dinner entrees. Maine restaurants serving lobster usually just print ‘market price’ on their menus and you have to confirm the price on the day.

It is wonderful, yet rare, that Maine lobster fishermen are having a strong year both in terms of the volume of the lobster catch as well as the price they’re being paid for that catch.  In previous posts I’ve written about what has caused the boat price of lobster to be so high this year.
