Lobster Donuts – A Must Try Maine Lobster Dish

July 15, 2013 by Christina Lemieux Leave a Comment

If you’re looking for a unique lobster tasting experience while visiting Maine, look no further than 194 Park Avenue, Portland.  There you will be able to indulge in lobster donuts.  The creator of this weird and wonderful breakfast treat, Leigh Kellis, has been running a successful, Portland-based doughnut shop, The Holy Donut, for about two years.  Leigh’s wholesome donuts are made with Maine potato, unbleached flour and organic sugar, creating a less sugary, more savory taste experience.  The Holy Donut serves a variety of unique flavors, such as dark chocolate sea salt and bacon, cheddar and wild Maine blueberry, and has now added a Maine lobster doughnut to its list.

Leigh’s Maine lobster donut looks like an empanada and is made with the same Maine potato dough recipe as her other donuts, along with butter and herbs, which means it will provide a savory taste experience.  The lobster doughnut retails for about $9.00 and seems to be getting positive feedback thus far.  Step aside lobster omlette and lobster eggs benedict – this may be the new Maine lobster breakfast of champions!

If you try the new Maine lobster donut, let me know what you think.
