The Winter Harbor Lobster Festival

In 2012 I attended the Winter Harbor Lobster Festival and was reminded of how beautiful and friendly this fishing village is. Growing up, I visited Winter Harbor many summers by boat, as I accompanied my father to the Winter Harbor lobster boat races. It was nice to take in the Winter Harbor Lobster Festival by land for once.

The lobster dinner is a central part of the festival. In 2012, around 900 pounds of lobster was served to visitors. The dinner ran from 11:00am until 3:00pm and was packed the entire time.

For $15, diners were served a steamed lobster with drawn butter, corn on the cobb and fresh blueberries with cream. Lobster rolls were also on offer for the bargain price of $6.  Many other visitors clearly thought this was a bargain as well as when I made it over to the stand they were already sold out!

The main street and harbor of this fishing village are quaint and beautiful. Sadly, due to morning fog, this year’s Winter Harbor boat races were cancelled.

Finally, here is a picture of a garage in Winter Harbor, decorated with old lobster buoys. Beautiful.
